A Saskatoon man was arrested after a police chase on Sunday night that involved air support and a police dog.

It began when officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Spadina Crescent East and 25th Street East around 8:50 p.m., police said in a news release on Monday. The vehicle fled, heading east in the westbound lanes of College Drive.

Ground officers stopped following the vehicle and the air support team started monitoring it from the sky, police said.

As the vehicle left the city on Highway 5, the air support team guided ground officers to the suspect vehicle and they were able to set up a tire deflation device, which disabled the vehicle.

“The driver failed to comply with police commands, resulting in the use of a police service dog,” the release said.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, driving while prohibited, failure to comply with police demands, impaired driving and evading police.

Officers also learned he had multiple warrants for his arrest for evading police and dangerous driving.
