BRING IT HOME
Hallelujah! Mail delivery is back. A magazine subscription, the newsletter from my parent’s home village, new dog tags, a cheque, an invite to upcoming events. And back to looking forward to the click of the mail slot and the friendly wave of the mailman. It makes such a difference. Living alone, he may be the only human contact of the day. Like my Sun subscription, delivery makes all the difference.

(There are so many positives with mail delivery but the sad reality is in the long run, it is not sustainable)

PASSING JUDGMENT
Prime Minister Mark Carney says that more severe laws and penalties will be passed for certain crimes and getting bail. Also mentioned was having consecutive sentencing. I seem to be hearing an echo. Have we all not heard this before, with negative results? Carney has been hollow in the past in regards to promises to come. We shall see. Justice has to be seen to be done and not just talked about.

(This is a wait and see moment)

MORE BAIL FAIL
Don’t be fooled by the Liberals’ announcement on the toughening of bail laws. They are not proposing to end the turnstile bail system. There is no mention of accused who reoffend while out on bail. As long as their offence is not deemed as serious, they will be arrested and released over and over again, just as they are now. Canadians deserve and should demand better. Repeat offenders should be held in jail until trial to protect the public.

NOT AN ORIGINAL IDEA
Regarding the changes that Carney will introduce next week about bail reform. He says that they will get tougher on bail. Hmmm, where have I heard about these changes? Oh yeah, the Conservatives said that they will make the same changes — last year. Do the Liberals have any original ideas or do they like to steal Conservative policies?

Scott McMaster

(If they want to steal good ideas from the Conservative like bail reform so be it. But the difference will be in the implementation of such changes)
