A coroner will investigate the death of a 13-year-old French tourist who struck a tree during a dog sled ride on Monday in St-Michel-des-Saints, in the Lanaudière region.

The authorities went to des Aulnaies St. shortly before noon to rescue a 13-year-old child who was injured following an impact with a tree.

According to information from Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Frédéric Deshaies, initial information gathered suggests the child was on the dog sled when the driver lost control of it.

The boy, a French tourist who came to Quebec with his family, was transferred to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

An investigation is underway to establish the causes and circumstances of this event. A police spokesperson said Tuesday investigators don’t think criminal negligence was a factor in the boy’s death, adding that police will assist in the coroner’s investigation.
