MANILA, Philippines — Mamamayang Liberal Rep. Leila de Lima mourned the loss of her pet dog Coco, a regular visitor during her detention before the Covid-19 pandemic.
“My favorite, 13-year-old Japanese Spitz, Coco, succumbed to kidney malfunction last night,” de Lima said in a post on Facebook on Sunday.
“He was my regular visitor every Monday, pre-pandemic (when regulations still allowed visits), at the PNP Custodial Center,” she said. “I honor his extraordinary loyalty and devotion.”
De Lima was detained from 2017 until her release on bail in 2023. Her detention stemmed from drug-related charges, filed in court in 2017, of which she has been cleared.
