A food critic who starred on Big Brother has slammed Jeremy Clarkson’s Cotswolds pub in Oxfordshire.

The former Top Gear and Grand Tour host purchased The Windmill in Asthall near Burford for around £1,000,000 before renovating the location.

Renaming it The Farmer’s Dog, the celebrity presenter reopened the Cotswolds boozer to the public last August.

The pub has been regularly busy in the months following with tourists flocking to the spot to see the TV star.

Hawkstone is served on tap while a restaurant serves a British-ingredient menu only with a carvery available on Sundays.

Reviews have been largely in Mr Clarkson’s favour but a food critic who starred on Big Brother has taken issue with the pub’s dishes.

Henry Southan took his dad to the Oxfordshire watering hole over the weekend to celebrate Father’s Day.

Arriving at the overflow car park in the TikTok video, he said: “It’s like arriving at Glastonbury – this is the overflow car park.

“I am in a field far away from the pub, and I am having to trek to the pub even with a reservation.

“This better be the best roast I have ever eaten to justify the pain of just parking and getting here. I am being a proper moaner right now. I’m sorry, but it’s just crazy.

“There is a massive queue out the door – do I have to queue in that even if I have a reservation for now?”

The 26-year-old and his father got seated inside and ordered their meals, but found the meat to be “dry”.

Mr Southan said: “You were right about the beef, it is really dry.

“The pork is also really dry.”

The TikTok star has been a food critic for several years and has had his work featured in the likes of GQ as well as The Evening Standard.

He appeared to be struggling when chewing his mouthful, and then flagged an apparent lack of crispiness on the roast potatoes.

The pub piano was playing the EastEnders theme tune at the end of the clip which left the TikTok star confused.

Mr Southan’s negative review was met with some hit back from his followers with many jumping to defend Mr Clarkson.

One follower said: “Sir… he opened a rural pub that serves British farm food, not a fancy restaurant for the rich.”

Another added: “Such a positive attitude to helping the local British farmers…”

The 26-year-old has a large following across his social media channels following his stint on TV back in 2023.
