Regina Mayor Sandra Masters mentioned the city noticed a require for far more general public drinking h2o answers.

“That obtain to h2o is vastly crucial. To not have to check with, to not have to invest in a bottle of drinking water, to have clean, fresh new chilly drinking water we felt was massively significant,” Masters stated.

“We know that we have really incredibly hot summers and handing out bottles of water did not appear to make sense, and so the progressive staff at H2o, Wastewater and Surroundings at the City of Regina created these mainly in house. They were powder coated, in partnership with some community companies.”

Masters explained the value is about $three,500 for every unit but praised the team powering its style and design and execution.

“We did the simply call-out last year, saying we have to have a better answer than handing out bottles of drinking water,” she stated.

“We do recycle, nonetheless, anything at all we can do to decrease people disposable bottles of water is truly essential.”

Masters reported the city had been requested about putting in long lasting drinking water fountains, but they are a lot more highly-priced and far more easily destroyed. She reported seasonal was the very best answer.

“This thought is that the design was effectively temporary because when it gets chilly — as we know it is really chilly — it’ll be dismantled and put away for the winter season, and then it can be brought out again for the summer season,” the mayor stated.

The h2o is provided by close by fire hydrants but Deputy Hearth Chief Gord Hewitt reported the hearth hydrants would nevertheless be simple to use in the celebration of a fireplace.

“We presently have an operational plan for it. So it is incredibly identical to when we have construction going on in the town, and they have the back-move prevention valves, it is the identical approach for us,” Hewitt mentioned.

Far more non permanent drinking water stations could be installed in the course of the city next year.

“We’re executing it in three parks this summer season, with the notion that we’re likely to keep an eye on opinions and use, with the choice of putting in them in other parks in potential decades,” Masters explained.

The water stations will be obtainable for general public use from June right up until Oct each and every year.
