A 58-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by an SUV while walking her dog at a marked crosswalk in north Edmonton Saturday.

At 8:57 a.m., a woman was walking her dog and crossing north at 153 Avenue near 82 Street when she was struck by a southbound 2024 Nissan Rogue that was turning left at the intersection, police said in a Sunday news release.

The woman was treated on scene by EMS paramedics and taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. She died at hospital later Saturday evening, police said.

Her dog ran away but was later found and returned home by City of Edmonton Animal Control.

The driver of the car, a 36-year-old woman, was uninjured and remained on scene, police said.

This marks the 30th traffic fatality of 2025.

“Road safety impacts us all and fatalities in particular have long lasting and far-reaching effects on everyone involved,” said EPS Staff Sgt. Mike Wasylyshen, in the news release. “When you get the behind the wheel, slow down, remain aware of your surroundings and remember that the decisions you make can have life-altering consequences.”

The EPS major collisions investigations section has taken over the investigation. Police said speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage to contact EPS at 780-423-4567.
