Man nabbed for illegal dog meat trade in Badoc, Ilocos Norte

A man has been arrested in Badoc, Ilocos Norte for allegedly selling dog meat.

According to a report by GMA Regional TV’s CJ Torida on 24 Oras, the man was in possession of a live dog and several kilos of dog meat when he was arrested in a police entrapment operation.

According to CIDG Ilogos Norte, Animal Kingdom Foundation reported the suspect’s activities to the police.

“Bale yung na-recover po natin doon is yung nakakarga na po sa ref nila,” said CIDG Ilocos Norte chief Police Major Oliver Baniqued. 

The suspect refused to speak on camera but admitted to selling cooked dog meat as “pulutan.” He said that he knew it was illegal to slaughter dogs and sell their meat, but he felt sorry for those selling dogs. 

He is facing charges of violating the Animal Welfare Act and the Anti-Rabies Act. — BM, GMA Integrated News
