‘Charred’ dead body found at Wiltshire beauty spot by horrified dog walker

Wiltshire Police has launched a murder probe after the body of a man was discovered by a dog walker at Savernake Forest, just outside Marlborough this week

Police have launched a murder investigation after a dog walker found ‘charred’ human remains at a UK beauty spot.

The body of a man was discovered at Savernake Forest, just outside Marlborough, Wiltshire, at around 8am on Monday. Emergency services rushed to the scene after the dog walker alerted police.

A police cordon was set up as forensics carried out work at the scene on Monday. Wiltshire Police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The identity of the victim remains unknown at this time.

The force confirmed officers were called to a report that “a body had been found in Savernake Forest”. Members of the public were warned to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing, however, it’s believed the cordon has since been lifted.

At this stage, police have not said how long the remains are believed to have been in situ or whether they are treating the death as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police told Gazette and Herald: “We were called to a report that a body had been found in Savernake Forest, Marlborough, at 8am on Monday, August 25. A cordon was put in place and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.”

Savernake Forest is a popular spot for picnic-goers and campers. The beauty spot is packed with history and is a Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) as well as a registered important historic park.
