Billie Marten has shared tender new song ‘Leap Year’.
The songwriter is back, with Billie Marten finding renewal – and something fresh – within the tracklisting of incoming album ‘Dog Eared’.
Set to be released on July 18th, the record will be accompanied by a select batch of live performances, including a set at Glastonbury.
New song ‘Leap Year’ illustrates the subtlety of her work, with Billie Marten finding nuance within her gilded palette. The title should be taken literally – penned on Leap Day last year, she wrote the song while wrestling with the winter blues in bed.
It’s a humble jumping off point, with ‘Leap Year’ then becoming a tale of love stretched to breaking point – two lovers who can only reunite once every four years.
Billie comments…
“I picked up this app which is a digital version of an Optigan that you can get on your phone. It has pre-stored sample sounds that you can play chord by chord. I stitched some buttons together and it became this song. It was written in a Leap Year, 29th February 2024, which is where I got the title and premise from. It’s about two people who can only be reunited every leap year; they have one day every four years. It’s a song about fleeting love and the pain that can bring.”
Tune in now.
